A (KS) sensor listens for abnormal engine knocking or “pinging” caused by premature combustion. When it detects this sound, it sends a signal to the engine’s computer (ECM). Which then adjusts the ignition timing to prevent further knocking. Protecting the engine from damage and maintaining performance and efficiency. This allows the engine to run at its optimal performance safely.
How Does It Work:
- The sensor contains a piezoelectric crystal that generates a voltage, when it detects vibrations from engine knock.
- This electrical signal is sent to the engine control module (ECM).
- The (ECM) then retards the ignition timing to stop the knocking.
Thank You!
