A radiator cap’s primary function is to maintain pressure in the cooling system. Which raises the coolants boiling point, prevents it from boiling over. And helps the engine run at an optimal temperature. It works by using a pressure relief valve to release excess coolant into an overflow reservoir. When pressure is too high. And a vacuum relief valve to draw coolant back from the reservoir when the system cools and pressure drops.
