Car Sensors

Car sensors keep track of, almost everything happening in and outside a vehicle. Therefore, allowing the onboard computers (OBD) to make decisions.

Automotive sensors, are intelligent sensors; which can be used to control and process the pressure of oil, temperature, level of emission, coolant levels, etc.

There are different types of sensors used in automobiles. So, knowing how they actually work, can be a big advantage, in solving problems.

With the advancements in technology, car sensors enable modern vehicles to become more safer and cleaner than ever. So, they provide the key information, for effective and clean fuel combustion in the engine. Therefore, they make exhaust emissions values and fuel consumption, reduced significantly.

The number of sensors is increasing every day, but here is a short list of the more common ones:

  • Mass Airflow Sensor (MAF)
  • Oxygen Sensor (O2)
  • Knock Sensor (KS)
  • Engine Coolant Temperature Sensor (ECT)
  • Manifold Absolute Pressure (MAP) Sensor
  • Camshaft Position Sensor (CMP)
  • Crankshaft Position Sensor (CKP)
  • Throttle Position Sensor (TPS)
  • Idle Air Control (IAC)

Actually, many car owners, are not even aware of, how many automotive car sensors, their vehicle actually has.

So, car engine sensors, continually monitor major systems, sending real-time signals to onboard computers. And, these computers keep track of everything, alerting the driver; only when something is wrong or when the vehicle is due for service.

Above are just some of the various types of car sensors, that you need to know about; as a car owner or a car repair professional. Finally, they are important systems in the car and help notify you; of anomalies in the car systems which require attention.
